Cabo San Lucas is not only beautiful but offers so much for entertainment. Folks come from all over the world to vacation in Cabo, but it may be best know for its outstanding fishing and charters. Sports’ fishing is huge in Cabo San Lucas for all the reasons you might expect. Instead of heading way out to sea, in Cabo the fun starts just a short distance out where you have two seas mixing together, the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful Sea of Cortez. According to Quartz website, “Scientists say this narrow sea between the Mexican mainland and the Baja California peninsula is one of the most biologically diverse bodies of water on the planet, home to more than 900 species of fish, thousands of species of invertebrates, and a wide array of marine mammals like sea lions, dolphins and whales. The late French explorer Jacques Cousteau once called the Sea of Cortez the world aquarium.”
September and October are excellent months to go deep-sea fishing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin and Black Marlin are plentiful during this time of the year, making it an exciting time to head out to the Sea of Cortez or the Pacific Ocean.
Billfish are also very poplar in Los Cabos. Mostly, billfish run between 220 and 550 pounds. Two other billfish species are also caught here: sailfish, pursued by fly fishing anglers looking for a kick, and broadbill swordfish, caught with deep-dropped dead baits. Marlin season runs from September through mid- March, with regular daily catches of six to twelve marlin during high season. February through April is the ultimate time for Dorado, where fish — weighing up to 75 pounds — populate the offshore waters by the thousands.
Many charter boat companies operate out of the marina at Cabo San Lucas, with great selections of boats. Blue Sky Cabo (rated number 1 on Trip Advisor) has 5 incredible choices; Blue Marlin which is a 31 foot Intrepid Express, Blue Star a 32 foot Luhrs, Blue Water 35 foot Rivera, Blue Sky which is a nice 43 foot Riviera and the Blue Sea is magnificent 60 foot Bertram. You can easily talk to Jim online at cabosanlucasfishing.com about all your needs and requests. Jim is easy to work with and will do his best to make you trip the best of a lifetime. Also on the website you can chose a lovely Airbnb (I have stayed in this beautiful home and loved it!) to top off your experience and look into the best airport transportation (Brown’s) in the Cabo San Lucas area.
Several great fishing tournaments happen in October. The Bisbees is usually held the 2nd or 3rd weekend of October. First day for registration is Friday, normally team bags are handed out during this time while everyone is getting information and visiting. The actual fishing is a two-day event. If you are just a fan, you can watch the event from the Baja Cantina Beach Club on Medano Beach. Normally the prime targets are the black and blue marlin and are predominant in Cabo San Lucas and along the Baja Peninsula during the month of October.

Blue Sky offers sunset cruises from 90 minutes to 3 hours in duration that will stop at the arch for photos and a turn north up the Pacific coast of Cabo where you will enjoy spectacular sunsets and the gorgeous topography of the western Cabo landscape. The crews will even throw some lines in the water. My son caught a nice Dorado a few years back on one of the Blue Sky Cabo sunset cruises….a very cool bonus! Cruises normally set sail around 4:00pm. Blue Sky Cabo yachts are pristine and the captains and crews are not only very professional and informative but they are fun and will do all they can to ensure your cruise is pleasurable.
